Obituary for E.N. Ames

E.N. Ames, son of Floyd Lyman and Golda Blanche White Ames, was born on July 21, 1925 in Sheridan, Missouri. He departed this life on Saturday, March 18 at the age of 91.
On December 9, 1943, E.N. was united in marriage to Crystal Virginia Howes, and to this union seven children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, as well as a son, Richard Loren Ames; two daughters, Cheri Carlene Ames and Virginia Rae Ames, and by two brothers, Floyd Ray Ames and Rex Freemyer.
Survivors include two sons, Lindell Ames and his wife, Janna, of Warrenton, Missouri and Rendell Ames and his wife, Tammy, of Buffalo Missouri; two daughters, Rayma Bax of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ronda Glaspy and her husband, Mike, of Blairstown, Missouri. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Brandon Loving, Emma Glaspy Shumate, Whitney Ames Hinton, Lacee Ames, Ila Ames Allen, Clint Glaspy, Shayla Litle, Zachary Ames, Anna Bax, Gabriel Ames, Sarah Ames, Annabelle Ames Wilkerson, Sophie Bax, and Noah Ames, fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Carlene Crawford, of McFall, Missouri; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
E. N. was raised in Sheridan, Missouri. After their marriage, he and Crystal lived in Bedford, Iowa. He served as a gunner’s mate aboard the USSLST 60in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was present offshore during the D-Day invasion of June 6, 1944, where his ship ferried wounded soldiers across the English Channel to safety.
After the war, he and Crystal lived in Sheridan, Missouri, and later moved to Columbia, Jefferson City, and then to Camdenton in 1964. In October of 2006, they moved to Buffalo, Missouri.
E.N. was an accountant for many years and was employed by the Wright-Price accounting firm in both Jefferson City and in Camdenton. He later became the assistant manager, and then manager, of the accounting department at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach. He subsequently opened his own bookkeeping and tax preparation firm in Camdenton and continued preparing taxes until he was well past the age of 80.
E.N. was a charter member of V.F.W. Post 5923 in Camdenton and a life member of the American Legion Post 193. He made a profession of faith in Christ and was a charter member of the Camdenton United Methodist Church.
E.N. was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and a caring friend and neighbor. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will cherish the memories he created for his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home with the Reverend Ross Fulton officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday in the funeral home. A graveside service and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, Iowa. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Missouri Honor Flight in care of the funeral home at 15 Clint Avenue, Camdenton, MO 65020.
