Obituary for Ruth E Mooney

Ruth Eugenia Mooney, daughter of Frank E. Liechti, Sr. and Letha V. Hogue Liechti, was born October 20, 1918 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She departed this life Monday, March 6, 2017 in her home, at the age of ninety – eight years, four months, and fourteen days.

In 1939, Ruth was married to Thomas Franklin Hickman, and to this union one daughter was born. On April 21, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Carl L. Mooney, and together they shared fifty-four years until his passing in 2002.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Frank Jr., Robert, Raymond Gene and Carroll Liechti; four sisters, Alice Bolinger, Mildred Liechti, Marie Dixon, and Helen Mason.

Ruth is survived by her daughter; Daphne Jeffries of Linn Creek, Missouri,; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Evans and husband Doyle of Macks Creek, Missouri, Thomas Marsh and wife Heather of Lake Ozark, Missouri, and Christopher Marsh of Camdenton; eight great grandchildren, eight great great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Ruth was born and raised in the St. Joseph area, and was a proud graduate of St. Joseph Lafayette High School, Class of 1936. After graduating high school, she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. While there, Ruth was committed to her job and worked her way up through the ranks until she retired after thirty-six years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose in Kansas City and was the Senior Regent and the Star recorder also and a member of the College of Regents. She devoted many years to the organization. In 2004, Ruth moved to Camdenton, Missouri to be near her family.
Ruth was saved at an early age and was an active member at New Home Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Camdenton, she was a member of the Patee Park Baptist Church, in St. Joseph, where directed the Junior Choir, sang in the choir, enjoyed singing solos, and was the Chairperson for the Church Prayer Chain.

Ruth was active in the Telephone Company Pioneers and Burlington Santa Fe Veterans organizations, as well as the Business Working Circle, where she served as the State President for many years.

In her spare time, she could be found crocheting, knitting or quilting and making many beautiful keepsakes for those she loved.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and many dear friends.
