Shirley Mae Huffman

Shirley Mae Huffman, daughter of Ira O. and Lucille Vaughn Allen, was born, October 13, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. She departed this life, Saturday, June 24, 2017, in her home, surrounded by loving family at the age of sixty-nine years, eight months and eleven days.

She met the love of her life, James Martin Huffman, on Aunt Lydia’s farm and that is where their love story began. On October 28, 1971in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Jim and Shirley were united in marriage. To this union they were blessed with two daughters. Together they shared nearly forty-two years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Shannon Huffman of Camdenton, Missouri and Kalyn Rogers and Don Holbrook of Linn Creek, Missouri; her four grandchildren, Jesse Huffman, Austin Oshel, SPC Dylan Weiss and wife Ashley and Jacob Rogers; great-granddaughter, Mia Weiss; her siblings, Linda Allen of Kansas City, Missouri, Nancy Cook and husband Kelson of North Carolina, Rita Parker and husband Dennis and Ira Allen and Wife Linda both of Kansas City, Missouri as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Shirley grew up and lived in the Lee’s Summit area. She loved working for Southwestern Bell as a phone operator. She had often said that this was her favorite job. She was a bookkeeper for Tom’s TV for many years. Jim and Shirley could often be seen on their John Deere mowers. They owned and operated Our Patch for many years.

Shirley had made a profession of faith.

In her spare time she was very busy. She loved, gardening and had taught many people the correct way to take care of their flowers so they would put on their best show when it was time for them to bloom. She was gifted with being able to craft whatever she set her head to do. Shirley loved doing craft shows and flea markets and she never met a stranger.

Shirley was always helping someone and loved taking care of her girls, grandchildren and friends. She has left us with many wonderful memories that we will treasure. Her beautiful smile will never be forgotten by all who loved her. She was a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and an amazing friend. We celebrate her life and know that she is so happy to be reunited with Jim.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Shirley’s home.
