Obituary for Thomas Michael Hughes

Thomas Michael “Mike” Hughes, son of Thomas Lee and Margaret Day Hughes, was born April 21, 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Select Specialty Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-three years, nine months, and fifteen days.

On July 4, 1975, Mike was united in marriage to Virginia “Jenny” Elliott, and to this union two sons were born.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and his father and mother-in-law, Otto and Rosemary Elliott.

He is survived by his wife, Jenny Hughes, of the home; two sons, Michael Hughes and wife Tiffany, of Camdeton, Missouri, and Tommy Hughes and Michaella Lenci, of Camdenton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Ashley, Jonathan, and Anthony Hughes; one sister, Vicki Smyth; a number of nieces, nephews, as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

Mike spent his younger years in the Kansas City area and entered into the United States Marine Corps in 1970. While in the Marines, Mike served as a Tank Mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1971. Mike moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1993 to make his home.

He received his associate’s degree in Computer Science. Mike owned M&M electric with his son, Michael, for many years until his health forced him to retire. Following his retirement, Mike became a realtor and broker with his wife, Jenny, and together they built a successful real estate company in the lake area.

Mike’s favorite part of his life was spending the last forty-two years vacationing and making memories with his loving wife, Jenny. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, particularly with his son Tommy, boating, playing poker, and restoring vintage Harleys especially with his son Michael. He truly cherished spending time with his family and friends. Mike was known as a jack of all trades and his family relied on his knowledge and ability to fix anything that was broken.

Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he has created for his family and many friends.
