Charles Francis Rassel, son of Frank A. and Fern Peck Rassel, was born April 7, 1928 in Cherokee County, Iowa. He departed this life, Wednesday, March 11, 2009 in his home, Camdenton, Missouri at the age of eighty years, eleven months and four days. On April 6, 1947 in Cherokee County, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Lorna Miller and to this union five children born. She preceded him in death in 1992. On March 17, 1993, he married Florida Roz in the Philippines; their marriage was blessed with two children. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Floyd Rassel and a sister, Mary Brownmiller. Survivors include his wife, Flory of the home; seven children, Steven Rassel and wife Romie of Blue Springs, Missouri; Randy Rassel and wife Karen of Eldon, Missouri; Terrie Meier and husband Roger of Haven, Kansas; Scott Rassel and wife Sharon of Wichita, Kansas; Todd Rassel of Wichita, Kansas; Finessa Rassel and Aaron Rassel both of the home; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wayne Rassel, Paul Rassel and Tom Rassel; two sisters, Kathleen Johnson and Norma Bushman and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Chuck was raised in Iowa and graduated from high school there. He served his county proudly in the Army Air Corp during the Korean War as a radio operator. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Iowa where he was a farmer and later owned and operated a trucking company, a bowling alley and later a grain elevator. He moved to Princeton, Missouri where he owned and operated a Western-Auto True-Value Hardware Store for several years. He later moved to Wichita, Kansas where he worked in the hardware business. In Fall River, Kansas, he owned a liquor store. He moved to Camdenton, Missouri in 1995. While in the lake area, he worked for Carl's Supermarket, Black and Decker, Tools and More and most recently at Wal-Mart Super Center in Camdenton. Chuck was baptized and raised in the Catholic Church. After his first marriage, the family joined the Lutheran Church. In later years, he returned to the practices of the Catholic Church. He was a member of the AMVETS. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, video games and jigsaw puzzles. Earlier in life, he was a member of a pinochle card club. He enjoyed attending his children's sporting events. He was a happy person, and was always whistling. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his many accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2009 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m., Friday in the funeral home. A second funeral service and burial will be in Cherokee, Iowa. Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospices of America and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
