FERN MORELAND Elizabeth Fern Moreland, daughter of James Nicholas and Jane Ann Dudley Hartman, was born, September 17, 1923 in Brooklawn, New Jersey. She departed this life, Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in University Hospital, Columbia, Missouri at the age of eighty-five years and twenty-eight days. On August 31, 1943 in Camden, New Jersey, she was united in marriage to Clyde Warren Moreland and to this union nine children were born. Together they shared over fifty years until his passing on October 8, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert Moreland and Bruce Dudley Moreland and a brother, James Nicholas Hartman, Jr. Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Jane Allen and husband Larry of Rolla, Missouri; Kathleen Moreland of Eldon, Missouri, E. Christina Kilmer and husband Jerry of Delhi, New York, Clyde Warren Moreland, Jr. and wife of Deborah of Independence, Missouri, Charles Moreland and wife Gail of Columbia, Missouri, Mary Sluss and husband Frank of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and Patrick Moreland and wife Denise of Pea Ridge, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren, Heather Lane and husband Scott, Gregory Robert Kilmer and wife Candace, Matthew Alan Kilmer and wife Margaret, Erin Elizabeth Austin and husband Steven, Lisa Marie Kilmer, Mark Moreland, Jonathan Moreland, Samuel Moreland, Lindsey Kate Moreland, Christopher Paul White and wife Samantha, Deidre Ann O'Shaughnessey and husband John and Kasey Ann Moreland; seven great-grandchildren, Devon and Dawson Lane, Marin Rose and Linden Hartman Kilmer, Kyle White, and Sinead Marie and Kevin O'Shaugnessey; a sister, Edith Johnson of Moorestown, New Jersey; a brother, Ralph Hartman of St. Joseph, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Fern was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Berlin, New Jersey and Camden New Jersey. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden, New Jersey. She worked for a time at Curtis Publishing in Philadelphia the enlisted in the U.S. Army Women's Air Corp. She served her country proudly during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, she and Clyde made their home near Decaturville. She was a help-mate to her husband and mother to her children as well as a geneologist and historian. She researched and wrote many articles on people, places and events of Camden County. She was a member of the South Camden Extension Club and the Camden County Historical Society. She was baptized into the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Camdenton, Missouri. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fern was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her many accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Myetta Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m., Saturday in the church. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church Ladies Sodality or Myetta Cemetery and left at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
