Geneva Dougherty

GENEVA JUNE DOUGHERTY Geneva June Dougherty, daughter of Owen and Martha Jane Sowards Weigart, was born, August 20, 1931 in Grant City, Missouri. She departed this life, Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in her home in Camdenton, Missouri at the age of seventy-six years, six months and twenty-seven days. On February 19, 1949 in Hopkins, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Eugene Leroy Dougherty and to this union three children were born. Together they shared twenty-nine years until his passing on February 19, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Allan Dougherty and two brothers, Dale and Harold Owen Weigart. Survivors include her children, Kevin Dougherty and wife Kristina of Camdenton, Missouri and Sheilah Stone of Camden, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan Stone and wife Windi of Camden, North Carolina, Regina Downing of Springfield, Missouri, Jessica Hill and husband Jason of Roach, Missouri, Robert Martin, Jayson Martin and Megan McKenna all of Camdenton, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Kyra and Shyanne Stone of Camden, North Carolina and Mikayla June Dougherty and Kevin Parker Downing both of Springfield, Missouri; sisters, Mabel McDonald of Camdenton, Missouri, Helen Evan of Fortuna, California and Thelma Gladman of Mound City, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She attended school in Sheridan, Hoskins and Maryville, Missouri, spending most of her time in Hopkins. She moved to the lake area over forty years ago. She was a devoted help-mate to her husband, mother to her children and homemaker. June made a profession of faith in Christ and was a forty-year member of New Home Baptist Church. Her church was very important to her and she held many positions in the church throughout the years. She was on various committees including pastor search committee, Vacation Bible School and kitchen committee. She taught Sunday school and also served in the nursery. She was a talented quilt maker and embroidered many beautiful quilts for her family to treasure. Most of all, she enjoyed sharing love with her family and friends. June was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday in the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008 in Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made to Lamb House and left at the funeral home.
