HARVEY NELSON Harvey Jerrall Nelson, son of James Russell and Myrtle Rose Hallum Nelson, was born, February 5, 1943 in Davenport, Oklahoma. He departed this life, Monday, April 2, 2012, in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of sixty-nine years, one month and twenty-eight days. On December 27, 1968, he was united in marriage to Janice Faye Fuller at the North Side Church of Christ in Wichita, Kansas, and to this union four sons were born. Together they shared forty-three years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jeremy W. Nelson and a step-granddaughter, Shannon Smith. Survivors include his wife, Janice F. Nelson of the home; four sons, Rick Nelson of Cedar Hill, Texas, Raymond Nelson of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Klee Nelson of Lee's Summitt, Missouri and Kris Nelson of Roach, Missouri; six grandchildren, Rick Nelson, Jr. of Midlothian, Texas, Heather Nelson of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Matthew, Kaleb, Nathanael and Benjamin Nelson all of Lee's Summitt, Missouri; two step-granddaughters, Heather Blanton and Angela Blevins; a brother, Jim Nelson of Lane, Kansas; three sisters, Joy Pagenkoph of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Jean Smith of Rose Hill, Kansas and Judi Wolfe of Lolita, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Harvey attended country schools in Rose, Kansas and Davenport, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of South High School, Wichita, Kansas in the class of 1960. He worked as a District Sales Manager for Shelter Insurance out of Columbia, Missouri for twenty-four years. Through Shelter Insurance he was in the Distinguished Member of Champions and was awarded trips to Maui, Hawaii in 1977, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1978, Montreux, Switzerland in 1979, Rome, Italy in 1985, San Francisco, California in 1986 and Geneva Switzerland in 1995. He was honored with the Persistency Award for District at the 1977 Rio de Janeiro Conference. He won the top Kansas District Sales Manager in District 6 Award with 682.23% in life sales, many of the policies he wrote himself to help expedite the sales for his agents in order to qualify his agents for the Conference of Champions. He also received a twenty year service award. He retired in 1998. He reentered the work force and worked as a store manager for Hardee's Corporation in Carlyle, Illinois for two years. He and Janice retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 2004. In his spare time he enjoyed working outdoors and landscaping. He built a large garden pond with lots of lights and rocks and seventy-two fish. He enjoyed sitting out in the evenings feeding and watching the fish. Most of all, time spent with his family brought him joy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. A family memorial gathering will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 in the family home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America in care of the funeral home.
