Hilda Mae Mitchell, daughter of Fred Orville and Edie Mae Dodd Rowland, was born, July 25, 1927 in Climax Springs, Missouri. She departed this life, Saturday, April 24, 2010, in University Hospital, Columbia, MO at the age of eighty-two years, eight months and thirty days. On February 24, 2001, she was united in marriage to Ronald J. Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her first born, Vernon McDowell to whom she was married for five years; the father of her remaining children, Gene Hammond to whom she was married for forty-two years; brothers, John Rowland and Marvin Rowland and sister Eunice Libby. Survivors include by her husband, Ronald Mitchell of Climax Springs, Missouri; three daughters, Verna Moran and Willie Rogers of Climax Springs, Missouri; Jeannie Long and husband John of Peculiar, Missouri and Donna Baxter and husband Robert of Climax Springs, Missouri; a son, Jimmy Hammond and wife Eva of Climax Springs, MO; grandchildren Crystal, Priscilla, Nathan, Adam, Kaydee, John, Heather, Alex, James, Josh, Ethan and Jake; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Dority and husband Steve of Climax Springs, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Hilda was raised in and lived her entire life in Climax Springs, Missouri In her spare time she loved to listen to country and gospel music. She always enjoyed going to music shows and gospel singings. The times she cherished the most was when she was with her children and all of her family. Hilda was a member of Innerlife Ministries and her Christian walk in life was very important to her. Hilda was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her many accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, April 28, 2010 in Innerlife Ministries Church., Climax Springs, Missouri Burial will follow in Climax Springs Cemetery, Climax Springs. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home or church the day of the service.
