JOHN EDWARD McNALLY, SR. John Edward McNally Sr., son of Edward and Ellen Brett McNally, was born, February 19, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. He departed this life, Friday, April 2, 2010, in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-six years, one month and fourteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stephen W. McNally and a sister, Margaret O'Rourke. Survivors include two children, Mary Ellen Mitchell of Roach, Missouri and John McNally and wife Cindy of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren, Hanna Mitchell of Maryville, Missouri, Haley Mitchell of St. Louis, Missouri, Ryane McNally of North Hollywood, California, Matthew McNally of Wilmington, North Carolina and Lane McNally of Alexandria, Virginia; a brother, Charles E. McNally and wife Vivian of Brooklyn, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. John was raised in Brooklyn, New York and enlisted in the U.S. Army as soon as he was able. He served his country proudly in the Army during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked as an air craft mechanic. He completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He retired form the Air Force as a Master Sergeant after twenty-two years of service to his country. He continued to work as an air craft mechanic, working for several companies throughout the world. He retired to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1980. John was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating and the lake, stamp and coin collecting and playing cards with his neighbors. Most of all, he enjoyed tinkering. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his service to our country and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. John loved "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" by John McCormack. He lived his life trying to be those smiling Irish eyes. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home
