JOYCE SLOAN Joyce Young Sloan, daughter of James Young and Mary Frances Wilkinson Clark, was born, October 2, 1915 in Lexington, Virginia. She departed this life, Thursday, February 7, 2008 in St. Mary's Manor, Blue Springs, Missouri at the age of 92 years, four months and five days. On September 5, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Charles Thomas Sloan. Together they shared twenty-eight years until his passing on March 6, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Randy Clark, William Paige Clark and Hanes Clark and two sisters, Phyllis Clark and Mamie Clark. Survivors include her daughters, Janet Schneider and husband Richard and Charlene Thomas and husband Wayne all of Blue Springs, Missouri; four grandchildren, Karla Harrington, Lissa Hoeprich, James McGregor and Scot McGregor; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Michael and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. At the age of two, Joyce and her family moved from Virginia to Plattsburg, Missouri, where she graduated from high school. She continued to live at home and care for her ailing mother until the age of thirty-six, when she met and married Charles. They made their home in Excelsior Springs, Missouri for a time, and then moved to Parkville, Missouri. In 1968, she and Charles retired to the Lake of the Ozarks. In 2002, due to poor health, she moved to Blue Springs, Missouri to be closer to her daughters. Joyce made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Camdenton United Methodist church where she was active in the quilt circle and missions work. She was very talented at sewing, quilting and gardening. She made many beautiful garments and quilts. She enjoyed landscaping and always had beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. She always kept a neat home and enjoyed entertaining friends and family especially during the holidays. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends. Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt and was a caring neighbor and friend. She impacted many lives and we will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Blue Springs, Missouri. Cremation was under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton. Memorial donations may be made to Camdenton United Methodist Church Missions and left at the funeral home or the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
