Jules Snyder Becker, 87 Jules Snyder Becker, 87, of Linn Creek, Missouri, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Missouri after a lengthy illness. He was born March 3, 1924 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of Alma Snyder Becker and Samuel Becker. His mother was a gifted pianist and soloist, and his father was an attorney for the International Red Cross during World War II. He attended and graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia, the second-oldest continuously public high school in the United States. He also attended Drexler University in Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania and the U. S. Naval Academy. He received two Master's Degrees in electronic and mechanical engineering. Jules served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Iowa in the engineering department. While serving his country, he helped capture enemy ships and then move the emptied vessels to the Bimini Islands for hydrogen bomb tests. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy he was a professional contract engineer working at many companies across the country before retiring from Northrop-Grumman in Pasadena, California and eventually moving to Linn Creek. Survivors include his longtime companion, Joyce Thompson, of the home; one daughter, Joan Greenfield of Sarasota, Florida; two sons, Jon Becker of Lugano, Switzerland and Charles Becker of Medford Lakes, N.J.; and two special caregivers, Chris Thompson and Jeff Thompson. The care, support and efforts of the staff of Dialysis Clinics, Inc. of Osage Beach as well as the staff of OATS Transit Service were much appreciated. The remains have been cremated and a private ceremony will be held at a later date. Local arrangements were under the direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri.
