MARK LANDIS Mark Landis, son of Armin Virgil and Louise Marie Steele Landis, was born February 22, 1953 in Lawrence, Kansas. He departed this life Monday, January 31, 2011, in Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of fifty-seven years, eleven months and nine days. On Sunday, December 30, 1973 during a blizzard in Arma, Kansas Mark was united in marriage to Ellen Renee Garrison. They were able to drive the thirteen miles to Pittsburg, Kansas for their honeymoon instead of Branson, Missouri as planned. To this union two children were born. Together they had shared thirty-seven wonderful years of marriage. Survivors include Mark's wife Renee of the home; a son, Jacob Landis and wife Carly and a daughter, Krista Monroy and husband Jose and two granddaughters, Natalie Landis and Makenna Monroy all of Camdenton, Missouri; his parents, Armin and Louise Landis of Camdenton, Missouri; two brothers, Armin W. Landis and wife Nancy of Oskaloosa, Kansas and Alan Landis and wife Carol of Lawrence, Kansas; his parents-in-law, Elton and Doris Garrison of Wichita, Kansas and a host of other relatives and many friends. Mark was raised in Lawrence Kansas where he also graduated from high school. He received a degree from the University of Kansas, with a major in science, and through the years continued to be an avid KU sports fan. In 1977, Mark became a certified Emergency Medical Technician as well as a certified locksmith. His skill at drawing and his keen sense of humor were evident in the political cartoons he submitted to the Lake Sun newspaper at various times. During the years of 1984 to 1987, Mark owned and operated a turkey farm and he was one of the top growers for Cargill. From the years of 1993 to 2011, Mark was employed by the Missouri Department of Conservation and had recently received a fifteen year service award. His position included fighting wildfires and he served as an instructor for the fire department and provided specific training for dealing with wildfires. Mark also worked as a radio operator. Mark's love of trees was evident in the professionalism he exhibited in his work for the Conservation Department and in the instruction he gave for saving trees from destructive wildfires. He enjoyed the trees on his own land and was always making time to plant seedlings. In his spare time Mark loved to be working outside, hunting (including hunting for bargains), listening to The Beatles and watching KU sports. His special talents included his beautiful artwork and paintings, music ability, building his house and his wonderful sense of humor. Mark was always the first to step up to volunteer for anything. Mark loved his family and always put them ahead of himself. He was a wonderful husband, the best dad, and an amazing "Pops" to his two precious granddaughters. He was a good neighbor and a faithful friend. We will treasure the many good memories he had created for all of his family and many friends. We will treasure the gifts he gave to us of himself. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Camdenton, Missouri. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton, Missouri is assisting the family with arrangements.
