Max Moyer

MAX MOYER Max William Moyer, son of William Joseph and Ruth Hill Moyer, was born, April 25, 1939 in Perry, Iowa. He departed this life, Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence in Camdenton, Missouri at the age of sixty-nine years, two months and nineteen days. On July 12, 1958 at St. James Church in Liberty, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Dannels and to this union five children were born. The weekend of July 12, 2008, Max and Betty celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all their children and grandchildren in Branson, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathleen Ann "Kathy" Moyer and an older sister, Margaret Dearey. Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Lou of the home; a son, Stephen Max Moyer of St. Louis, Missouri; three daughters, Theresa Moyer of Camdenton, Missouri, Cara Ross and husband Ralph of Columbia, Missouri and Trisch Moyer-Smith and husband Dave of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Regan Ross, Jeff Moyer, Brianna Moyer-Smith, Scott Moyer, Adam Ross, Eric Moyer, C.J. Ross, Lexi Smith and Reece Smith; two sisters, Marie Hackett of Carroll, Iowa and Mary Jo Luebbert and husband Bob of Northwood, Iowa; a brother, Milton Moyer of Ames, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Bernard Dearey of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and many friends. Max attended Liberty High School where he met Betty Dannels. They were married while he was attending the University of Missouri Columbia. He attended MU on a football scholarship and played in both the 1960 and 1961 Orange Bowls. He graduated University of Missouri with a degree in Business Administration. In 1961 he began a career with State Farm Insurance and retired in 1997 after thirty-six years of service. He and Betty retired to the Lake of the Ozarks a year later. Max was baptized into the Catholic Church and was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Camdenton where he volunteered for numerous activities. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, on the board of directors for Helping Hands, and volunteered for L.A.M.B. House and Meals on Wheels. In spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing and piddling around the house and the yard. He was a nature lover and enjoyed feeding the birds and ducks daily. Max was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and was always there to help neighbors and friends. His first two priorities in life were his family and his faith. We will forever treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 18, 2008 in St. Anthony Catholic Church under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday in St. Anthony Catholic Church with a Rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m. Private inurnment will be in Allee Memorial Gardens, Camdenton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Helping Hands or L.A.M.B. House and left at the funeral home or the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
