Norma Jean Mifflin, daughter of Brady and Clara (Davidson) VanHoy, was born November 13, 1931 in Ava, Illinois. She departed this life Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Laurie Care Center, at the age of ninety-one years, nine months, and nine days.
On August 6, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to Frank Mifflin, and together they shared fifty-eight years until his passing on February 1, 2008.
Jean was also preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Delores, Virginia, Kathy, Albert, Clara, William, and Donald; a grandson, John Pettyjohn; and two great-grandchildren, Jason and Kennedy Ashbaugh.
She is survived by her children, Lloyd Mifflin and wife Sue of Garland, Texas, Dale Mifflin and wife Ilona of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Cherie Sunderman and husband Marty of Edwards, Missouri; her grandchildren, Heather Broder, Shawna Moreland and husband Joe, Geoffrey Mifflin and wife Jessalyn, Rachel Woodruff, John Sunderman and wife Laura, Ryan Sunderman and wife Kelly, Tricia Pettyjohn, and Kim Ashbaugh and husband Jordan; great-grandchildren, Madison, Holden, Lane and Savannah Moreland, Kaila and Maya Broder, Jason and Lucy Woodruff, Claire, Jacob, Cole, Troy, Tyler, Lexi, Trevor and Lily Sunderman, Kylie, Kaitlyn, and Chase Webb, and Charlotte and Stella Ashbaugh; a brother Lee VanHoy and wife Sue, of Jupiter, Florida; as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
Jean grew up in the Ava, Illinois area. It was there that she met and married her husband Frank. Following their marriage, they moved to St. Louis and in 1980 moved to Greenview, Missouri to make their home.
Jean was a member of the Ozark Bethel Chapel Assembly of God Church for many years and was very active throughout her years there. She served as a Sunday School Teacher as well as a dedicated Deacon’s wife for many years.
In her spare time, Jean devoted much of her time to her bible study group and dabbled in oil painting. Jean was also a member of the Red Hats. She later moved to the Laurie Care Center. While living there, Jean was very active in the many events and had a wonderful social life. She was able to influence many lives there and was deeply loved and shared her love with the residents and employees.
Jean was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and was a caring friend. We celebrate her long life and many accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created for her family and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 26, 2023 in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri. Burial will follow in Allee-Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until time of service Saturday in the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund at Laurie Care Center through the funeral home at 15 Clint Avenue, Camdenton, Missouri 65020. Arrangements are under the direction of the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home.
