RAY KENDALL ECKLES Ray Kendall Eckles, son of Walter and Catherine Tangler Eckles, was born, March 15, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. He departed this life, Sunday, August 8, 2010, in South Hampton Place, Columbia, Missouri at the age of eighty-one years, four months and twenty-four days. On February 21, 1953 in Peace Lutheran Church, St Louis, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Wilma J. Schleifer and to this union three children were born. Together they shared fifty-one years of marriage until her passing on April 13, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Rollin LaPoint. Survivors include a son, Guy Eckles and wife Penny of Columbia, Missouri; two daughters, Karen Lappin and husband Jim and Kim Klann and husband John all of St. Louis, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Bob Fleis, Baylee Eckles, Jake Lappin, Branden Klann, Kendall Eckles, Brittany Klann, Thomas Eckles, Brianna Klann and Brittney Bess; one great-grandchild, Cayden Clay; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Gertrude and Ed Rhode and Marie and George Newman and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ray was raised in St. Louis and graduated high school there. He was a honored veteran of the Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. He and Wilma made their home in South County St. Louis where he worked for Beaumont Graphics. They later retired to Lake of the Ozarks. Ray made a profession of faith and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Camdenton, Missouri. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, dining at Tupelo Honeys and visiting with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2010, in Peace Lutheran Church, Camdenton. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday in the church. A second service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2010, in Peace Lutheran Church, St. Louis. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m., Friday in the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and left at the funeral home or the church the day of the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton.
