ROSIE SUMMERS Rosa Catherine Summers, daughter of William John and Anna Catherine Bowers Bitner, was born, February 12, 1921 in Mason Dixon, Pennsylvania. She departed this life, Saturday, January 9, 2016, in her home, Camdenton, Missouri at the age of ninety-four years, ten months and twenty-eight days. On January 11, 1944 in Leavenworth, Kansas, she was united in marriage to Byron Purvis Summers and to this union three children were born. They were married seventy-two years. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, William Clyde, Gernard, Daniel, Donald, Lewis and Richard Bitner and two sisters, Hazel Minich and Betty Orner. Survivors include her husband, Byron Purvis “Barney” Summers of Camdenton, Missouri; three children, Darlene Betty Jeffers and husband Rogers of New Paris, Ohio, James Michael Summers and wife Barbara of Parker, Colorado and Redith Ilene DeBolt and husband Wesley of Hagerstown, Indiana; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rosie was raised in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. She worked as a restaurant waitress and manager. She helped sew Army tents for Masland Carpet Company and tuned crystals for military radios for Standard Pizzo Company both in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, she was an Army wife from 1944-1957. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and made many articles of clothing for her children and grandchildren. Most of all, she was a help-mate to her husband. His interests and goals were her interests and goals and she loved working alongside him to accomplish many things. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and her accomplishments and will treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m., Tuesday in the funeral home. Graveside services and burial will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in Ft. Leonard Wood Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
