Russell Louis Schmidt

Russell Schmidt departed his earthly life for his heavenly home on June 4, 2023 at Arrowhead Senior Living, Osage Beach, Missouri.

Russ was born on September, 30, 1927 to Louis and Irene Schmidt in St. Louis, Missouri. His 96 remarkable years enriched the lives of so many family members and friends. He was the kindest, smartest, most generous and loving man. He would truly help anyone need, without ever asking for anything in return.

He married Jennie Ruth (Connolly) Schmidt on June 29, 1972. He lovingly cared for her until her death at 96 years of age, on May 21, 2021. While they had no children of their own, they were amazing mentors to nieces, nephews and the children and teens of Halls Ferry Christian Church in St. Louis including teaching them to water ski. Russ and Jennie were also involved with the Linn Creek Christian Church. They enjoyed many winters in Brownsville, Texas.

On October 6, 1944, Russell enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country both as Active Duty and United States Navy Reserves until August 26, 1951, when he was honorably discharged.

After graduating from the Rolla School of Mines, Russ worked as an electrical engineer at McDonald Douglas on the early space flights.

He is predeceased by his parents, wife Jennie and brother David. He is survived by his brother Louis Schmidt, brother-in law, Harry Connolly, his faithful caregivers for many years Mike Horrighs and Stephanie Hamner, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Interment with military services will be at a later date at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.
