Cherished son, father, husband, grandpa, and friend.

Bret M. Moore, 62, passed in the comfort of his home on August 31, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.

Bret was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 16, 1963. Bret spent his life leaving his mark on the people and places around him. On June 13, 1987 he married Sheryl McDaniel in Camdenton, Missouri. Their relationship began as a friendship and grew into a marriage of 39 years, through which they built a family and a lifetime of memories.

Bret was a man who could build just about anything. He had an incredible ability to look at something and see not only what it was, but what it could become. He was a craftsman by nature, with a talent for woodworking, metal fabrication, painting, construction, and just about anything else that required creativity and a willingness to figure it out. In 1988, he started his own construction business, Wood-n-Moore where he spent years putting those talents to work and becoming well known for building staircases, handrails, and trim.

His work was more than a job. Creating things was part of who Bret was. He was always tinkering, always thinking and always coming up with something bigger and better. He could always turn an ordinary piece of wood or metal into something useful and beautiful, and there was a certain satisfaction he took in figuring out how to make something work.

And onto his orneriness. He has a sense of humor that was uniquely his own. He loved to joke, loved to laugh, and he could find amusement in the simplest things. Those who knew him well, knew his look. The warm smile, the low chuckles to himself usually followed by the realization that Bret had come up with another one of his ideas. That mischievous side of him was part of what made him so memorable. Bret was never perfect and never pretended to be. He was simply himself and that was more than enough.

Beneath the humor and orneriness was a man of generous heart. Bret was someone people could turn to. He was willing to lend his time, his knowledge, and his talents to help others, often times without expecting anything in return. Many will remember him for the things he did for them, which he never thought twice about.

The title Bret seemed to treasure the most was grandpa. Becoming a grandfather brought him a kind of happiness that was different from anything else. He cherished his grandchildren, Haeston and Hayzl, and treasured the time he was given with them.

Bret was proceeded in passing by his father, Robert Moore.

Bret is survived by his wife, Sheryl Moore; mother, Pat Moore; son Seth Moore (Lily); daughters, Stevi Moore (Cas), and Serri Moore; grandchildren Haeston and Hayzl; sisters, Kenda O’Quinn (Steve), Margie Upshaw, Debbie Lintner, and Linda Cashatt; brother, Kent Moore (Dena); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.

Bret lived a life full of hard work, family, friendship, creativity, laughter, and love. He leaves behind not only the things he built, but the people he loved and the memories he created with them. His greatest legacy will live on in his family, in the work of his hands, and the countless lives he touched along the way.

There will never be another Bret.
