Delbert Wayne 'Wayne' Hanks, Sr.

WAYNE HANKS Delbert Wayne Hanks, Sr., son of Estol Orlando and Ida Mae Morris Hanks was born, June 2, 1930 in Independence, Missouri. He departed this life, Saturday, January 10, 2015, in Osage Beach Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of eighty-four years, seven months and eight days. On May 8, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Loretta May Cates and to this union three sons were born. Together they shared fifty-nine years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Loretta M. Hanks of Linn Creek, Missouri; three sons, Wayne “Dubb” Hanks, Jr., Boyd L. Hanks and wife Rita and John D. Hanks and wife Shelli all of Linn Creek, Missouri; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; an uncle, Bud Morris and wife Dale of Roach, Missouri; three aunts, Florene Terri, Estelle Galloway and Elizabeth Duermyer all of Camdenton, Missouri; two nephews, Bennie Cates and wife Terri of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Billy Cates of Loveland, Colorado and a host of other relatives and many friends. Wayne was raised in Linn Creek, Missouri and went to school there. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked for Braniff Airways in Kansas City, Missouri. He owned several businesses in the lake area: Glaze Standard Station, Shoreline Park, Wayne’s Bargain Barn and Randy’s Frozen Custard. He was a bus driver for Camdenton R-III Schools and did grader work and hauling. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as a Volunteer Fireman for Osage Beach Fire Department and was a member of the Osage Beach Chamber of Commerce. He served Camden County as First District Commissioner from 1985 to 1987. Delbert made a profession of faith and attended Linn Creek Baptist Church. He loved his family and helped his sons in whatever they were involved in. He was a good friend and neighbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Freedom Cemetery, Montreal. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Compassus and left at the funeral home.
