Donna
Pohlmann
July 28, 1943 – April 30, 2026
Donna (Lee Shaw Hawthorne) Pohlmann, 82, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away on April 30, 2026, in her home.
Donna was born on July 28, 1943, in Decatur, Illinois to Ryland B. Shaw Jr. and Dorothy Reed Shaw. She moved with her parents and grandparents to Camdenton in 1944 when she was eight months old. Some of her happiest childhood years were spent at her parents’ resort Hyd-A-Way Cove at Lake of the Ozarks.
Donna moved with her family to Winter Park, Florida in her teen years. Donna graduated from Winter Park High School, where she was a majorette and played saxophone in the band.
Donna was employed at Winter Park City Hall where she met her first husband, Dan. Donna and Dan along with her parents and grandmother returned to Camdenton, Missouri in 1969. They made lifelong friends in a square dance group at The Lake. After Dan’s death, Donna found love again with second husband Bill. They had a lake condo and enjoyed boating and fishing at The Lake. In Bill’s hometown of New Haven, Missouri they were members of the German-American Club and were active with Ebenezer Lutheran Church. A highlight of her life was a trip to Germany to see Bill’s family’s home country and visit his relatives in Bergenhausen.
Donna made friends easily wherever she lived in Missouri, Florida and Kansas. Friends and family members have described her as a sweet gentle lady, kind and generous, a woman of faith and love, spirited and intelligent.
Donna is survived by her daughter Jennifer L. Hawthorne of Camdenton, Missouri, and daughter-in-law Tara Deenihan-Hawthorne of Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel R. Hawthorne, and husbands Daniel J. Hawthorne and William F. Pohlmann.
A memorial service may be held in the future. Donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan.org) or Cat Care Society (CatCareSociety.org).
