Gilbert B. Evans of Camdenton, MO passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, in the presence of family.

Gil was born in Memphis, TN on October 8, 1953, the second of three sons born to Gordon Mitchell Evans and Joyce Loene (McMillan) Evans. He spent his childhood and young adulthood in West Chicago, IL, where he played baseball and football, and learned a variety of musical instruments, including the trumpet, tuba, French horn, viola and guitar.

As he grew older, Gil focused his attention on guitar and even toured Europe briefly with a rock band. He loved to travel and was known for setting off spontaneously on solo road trips.

Gil married his second wife, Gail, in 1988. Together they fulfilled a shared dream of moving full-time to the Lake of the Ozarks, where they enjoyed the slower pace and solitude of life on the lake. For much of his career, Gil worked as a Professional Land Surveyor. After moving to Missouri, Gil and Gail both became Certified Nursing Assistants and worked in those roles until retiring.

Gil immersed himself fully in whatever he pursued. A consummate hobbyist, he enjoyed tying flies, fly-fishing, brewing beer, woodworking and spending time on the water.

Gil’s sense of humor was the first thing people noticed, and it was the last thing to go. His quick one-liners served as icebreakers and often lightened the mood during difficult times. Up until his last day, Gil was still making us laugh.

Gil is survived by his wife, Gail Evans, and her two daughters, Katie (Brandon) Yaklich and Rachael Gossard; three children from his first marriage to Suzanne Hall - Collin (Samantha) Evans, Kelsey (Aaron) Liga and Carly Evans; nine grandchildren; and his brothers, Mike (Denise) Evans and Ozzie (Kristin) Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Joyce Evans.

Gil will be remembered for his incredible work ethic, his sense of adventure, his love of animals and his kindness to everyone he met.
