Gregory (Mophead) Hargis of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away suddenly on June 21, 2025, of natural causes at the age of 59. The son of the late Dolph and Donna Hargis of Carl Junction, Missouri, Greg will be remembered for how much love and energy he gave his family. He took especially good care of his mother who, prior to her death, was residing at a nursing home in Joplin.
Greg was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and spent many summer evenings cheering them on at Busch Stadium. He also had a passion for cars and spent hours tinkering with his Porsche. Greg loved music, dabbled in writing lyrics, and enjoyed the local live music scene.
Greg was known for his outgoing personality that was larger than life. Greg brought light, laughter and love to everyone around. He was a devoted friend to many. Greg traveled between St. Louis, Osage Beach and Carl Junction, making great relationships with those who shared his enthusiasm for sports, music and camaraderie.
Greg graduated from Republic High School in 1984 and received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Southwest Missouri State University in 1988. Greg worked in sales and marketing for many years.
Survivors include his sister Gretchen Farr (Hargis), her husband Mark, and their two children Grace and Collin, who reside in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
As posted on his Facebook page by those who knew him best… Rock ON my dear friend.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be planned for this fall and details will be shared.
