James Edward Sluss, son of Kenis and Nannie Mae (Muncey) Sluss, was born May 10, 1939, in Lovely, Kentucky. He departed this life on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the age of eighty-six years, seven months, and four days.
On August 27, 1959, James was united in marriage to Jackie Burns. To this union, three daughters were born.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Nellie Grim and Mary Jane Sluss; his brother, Forest Sluss, Morse Watson; and his half-siblings, Truman, Elmer, and Printess Sluss, and Rachel Berger.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie, of the home; his daughters, Pam Sellers and Matt Davis of Linn Creek, Missouri Connie Sorensen of Linn Creek, Missouri, and Kathy Kurt and husband Jim of Linn Creek, Missouri; his grandchildren, Cheri Welsh and husband Aaron, Stevie Sorensen, Chris Sorensen, Tyler Sorensen and wife Sierra, Jeremie Sorensen, and Cliff Potthoff; his great-grandchildren, Corbin and Zoie Mooney, Bentley Welsh, Rozilyn and Noah Potthoff, and Piper Sorensen; his brothers, Gene Sluss of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Willie Sluss of Linn Creek, Missouri; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
James spent most of his younger years living in Kentucky. After the passing of his father at an early age, he was raised by his mother. He later moved to Michigan, where he met Jackie’s cousin, Lester Burns. James eventually moved to Missouri with Lester, where he was introduced to Jackie, and they were later married.
James spent his life working in construction and dedicated twenty-two years of service to Clark’s Concrete in Camdenton. He was a skilled tradesman who could make anything out of nothing.
James and Jackie attended Trinity Full Gospel Church of Eldridge.
In his spare time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing on the Niangua River, and horseback riding. He especially cherished sitting on his porch watching the birds and riding his golf cart around his land.
James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was also a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and accomplishments and will treasure the many wonderful memories he created for his family and friends.
