Lewis Albert Capps, son of Fernando Monroe and Octavia Elizabeth (Mann) Capps, was born March 29, 1932 in Camdenton, Missouri. Lewis was the 15th of 16 children and the last living sibling. He departed this life Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the age of ninety-two years, ten months and twenty-two days.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Wayne Capps, Shirley White, Harold “Tom” Capps, Lonnie Capps, Alveritta Leap, Lester Capps, Audrey White, Maudra “Boy” Capps, Ross Capps, Ila Black, Bessie Banner, Clint Capps, Marvin Capps, Martha Watkins, and Bettie Bradshaw. He greatly anticipated the day the family would be reunited!
Lewis was a lifelong resident of Camdenton and a graduate of Camdenton High School in the Class of 1950. In 1952, Lewis entered into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, he was honorably discharged and began his career in banking. Lewis worked at First National Bank in Camdenton for over 50 years until his retirement as head teller. He made work fun with coworkers that became his extended family.
Lewis loved making homemade jelly, using fruit he had handpicked. Lewis supplied jelly to the entire family and many friends. It often was delivered with a gentle reminder to “bring back my jars”!
Lewis received his greatest joy from being around family. His brothers and sisters provided a constant source of entertainment. When the Capps siblings got together, there were always jokes and laughter. Later in life, he loved being around his nieces and nephews and their families, especially the little ones that came along. Kind, dapper, gentle, and generous were words that described him well. He will be missed.
Lewis had accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of Camdenton for many years.
