Murray Virginia (Still) Hughes, age 56, of Osby, Sweden, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

She was born on August 9, 1969, in Dallas, Texas, to parents Alan and Gail Still. She was a lifelong, devoted member of the Episcopal Church, and her faith was an important part of her life.

Murray graduated in 1987 from Lloyd V. Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas. During her youth, she enjoyed soccer, as well as playing the clarinet. She was a volunteer at the Dallas Cup, where her language skills were utilized.

Upon graduating from high school, Murray attended and graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, in 1991. She majored in French and enjoyed studying a year abroad at Université de Nancy II in Nancy, France.

Her love of travel led her to spend two years in Seoul, Korea, teaching English. While in Sweden, she completed the Swedish-speaking school program.

When living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for a French company for over 9 years and developed a special bond with her French boss, Jacque DeVore. They visited frequently following his retirement.

Murray loved the Lake of the Ozarks and spent many happy hours at the family cabin during her youth. As an adult, she spent several years with her parents at the lake and worked for the Camdenton R-III School District for 7 years. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and family, particularly her cousins, going to movies, and participating in lake and boating activities.

On July 11, 2018, Murray was united in marriage to Greg Hughes in Gibraltar, United Kingdom. They made their home in Osby, Sweden, with their cat, Findus.

In addition to her husband, Greg, Murray is survived by two step-daughters, Thora and Josey, of Sweden; her parents, Alan and Gail Still of Camdenton, Missouri; one brother, Andrew (Elizabeth Pauley) of Ipswich, Massachusetts; several aunts and uncles, and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

A service was held in Sweden before her remains were repatriated to the United States.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Episcopal Church in Camdenton, Missouri. Ashes will be spread at the lake with mementos of her travels placed in the columbarium at Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield, Missouri.
