NORM AUSTIN Norman Harvel Austin, son of Lester and Tressie Harris Austin, was born, November 2, 1925 in New Liberty, Illinois. He departed this life, Thursday, September 18, 2014, at his home, Montreal, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years, ten months and sixteen days. On August 5, 1944 in Golconda, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Irene Welch and to this union three children were born. They just celebrated seventy years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lester "Hawk" Austin. Survivors include his wife, Irene Austin of Montreal, Missouri; two daughters, Sandra Austin and Charlotte Austin both of Montreal, Missouri; a son, Bobby Austin and wife Joan of Richland, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Leon Austin, Jesse Austin, Crystal Strickler, Seth Austin, Cody Austin, Vanessa Austin and Justin Austin; thirteen great-grandchildren, Casey, Hunter, Kolten, Patrick, Brooke, Landon, Mason, Brynn, Brystol, Maverick, Elliott, Erin and Collin; a brother, Ellis Austin; a sister, Bernice Kohl and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Norman was raised during the depression era which instilled in him a strong work ethic. He served his county proudly in the Unites States Army Air Corp (8th Air Force) during World War II. Norman was an educator with a B.S. in education and a master's degree in administration. He influenced the lives of many young children. In his later years he owned, trained, and ran race horses which were his pride and joy. He liked nothing better than to talk of his experiences at the race track. Norman made a profession of faith and was a member of Camdenton United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and will treasure the memories he created for his family and friends. In life I loved you dearly In death I love you still, In my heart I hold a place That only you can fill. A family service and burial will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2014 in Freedom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Camdenton United Methodist Church and left at the funeral home. Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Camdenton is assisting the family with arrangements.
