Oleta S. Jones, daughter of Sanford and Hazel Thomas Holden, was born February 1, 1928 in Beedesville, Arkansas. She departed this life Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Lake Regional Health Systems, Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of eighty-eight years, three months, and twenty days. On July 9, 1949 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Oleta was united in marriage to Willard V. Jones, and together they shared fifty-two years, until his passing on December 15, 2001. Oleta was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her caretakers, who were like children to her, Dan and Diana Sutherland, of Camdenton, Missouri; their children, she thought of as her grandchildren, Dana Cheese and husband David, their children, Carson and Kierstyn, and Dustin Sutherland and his son, Collin. Oleta spent her younger years living in Arkansas and attended Harding College and Arkansas State College. She later moved to the St. Louis area where she worked for McDonnell Douglas for many years before her retirement. She was very proud of her time spent at McDonnell Douglas and relished telling friends and family that she worked with the astronauts and test pilots there. Oleta had also spent time working as a school teacher. In her spare time, Oleta enjoyed visiting with family and friends, talking politics, reading numerous books, and watching the news. She had also earned her pilot’s license in addition to her many other accomplishments. Oleta spent many years visiting the Lake of the Ozarks before making the area her home following the death of her husband. She enjoyed the time spent living at Lake Parke Senior Living and had made many friends there.
