Velda Mae Hall, née Barnes, was born in Skiatook, OK, on January 24, 1925 and joined her beloved husband in the eternal embrace of the Savior May 30, 2016. She was 29 years old. No, really. She celebrated that particular birthday on 62 occasions and vowed to come clean only when the numbers flipped to 92. The Almighty in his infinite mercy spared her that indignation. In 1945 she married Carl Revere Hall and began living an epic love story that spanned seven decades and three generations. She was his best friend and confidant, the quiet power behind the throne, the keeper of the castle, and the treasurer. As they cried in a corner and licked their wounds, any IRS agent having the misfortune to audit them would attest that she had an impressive grasp of the tax code. They never got a dime for their trouble. She ran five miles a day when only the astronauts jogged, soundly trounced women 30 years her junior on the tennis court, swam a mile every morning, and could fly a biplane like nobody’s business. She occasionally scared the bejabbers out of Revere with a barrel roll or a hammer drop, just for grins. She raised three adoring sons, who now mourn the loss of their greatest champion, doted on her three grandchildren, and cooed over three great-grands as well. She was a legendary beauty with a rapier wit and the most infectious laugh on the planet. She gave unstintingly to the needy, witnessed her Faith with every word and deed, fed her hummingbirds, and took in strays. She made every moment count. If you would like to honor her memory, hug a child. Pray for an enemy. Challenge a bully. Nurture the unloved. Forgive someone. Live humbly and inspire extravagantly. Rescue an animal. Help someone overcome their limitations. Dare to try. Please join us in celebrating the life of this extraordinary and vibrant human being at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 5th, at the Church of the Nazarene.
